BAND PROFILING BOOT CAMP: Band Coaching & Recording Weekend

Format: workshop

Aimed at: bands

Level: intermediate to advanced

Date: June 1st & 2nd, 2019

Time: 10 am-1 pm and 2-5 pm (on both days)

Description: In theory, there is much potential in the musical endeavours of a group (band)- however, the practical implementation on the way to success often proves difficult. For one, the objective look from the outside is often missing; also, communication and the ensuing catalyst or impeding processes within the group are subject to the laws of social dynamics. All these fields, in a professionally structured band process, are usually supervised and optimized by the so-called producer. The VMI offers an exclusive weekend seminar for all bands interested in such an optimization of its recources, with professional supervision.

Instructor: Seasoned and internationally reknown musician, producer and head of the music production department at VMI, Conrad Schrenk, is sharing his extraordinary know-how with the participants of this intensive workshop, focussing on theoretical knwoledge and its implementation, aimed at ensuring the success of a music production project. Conrad Schrenk has worked with many reknown national and international acts of the national and international music scene and ranks among the most virtuoso players in Europe. his collaborations include Al Jarreau, Lionel Richie, Thomas Lang ,Falco, Wolfgang Ambros, Georg Danzer, STS, Wilfried, Russkaja, Hallucination Company, Nouvelle Cuisine or the Wiener Symphoniker. In 2017, this exceptional guitarist was voted amongst the best 100 fusion players worldwide.

FOCUS JAZZ FOR INSTRUMENTALISTS: Band Coaching for instrumentalists

Format: semester course

Aimed at: jazz musicians and instrumentalists

Level: advanced

Date: weekly from March 7th, 2019 (exept school holidays)

Time: 7-9 pm

Description: To many, jazz is THE key musical innovation that the 20th century has brought about. The blending of improvisational spontaneity, collective ensemble playing, pulse orientation and the integration of influences from many other musical idioms has generated a type of player that has markedly altered the music world, and continues to do so. This course focusses on sensible ensemble interaction, improvisational routine and personal expression. The course repertoire includes classic and contemporary instrumental jazz, original compositions, as well as alternate forms.

Instructor: Wolfgang Reisinger ranks among the internationally most experienced and reknown jazz drummers of this country. His highly individual and recognizable style, along with a broad musical range, has brought about many collaborations and famous projects with key players of modern jazz, during the course of his 30-year long career. The VMI now offers interested musicians with adequate skills the opportunity to work with this exceptional musician. STAGE PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP

Format: workshop

Aimed at: singers and instrumentalists

Level: intermediate to advanced

Date: May 31th, 2019

Time: 2-5 pm

Description: To master the tools of the trade is an aspect in a singers or players performance that is commonly considered a prerequisite, by the audience. However, the importance of delivering a professional-grade performance, at least equally as important, is often overlooked. In this workshop, Gisele Jackson, who has shared the stage with the likes of Ray Charles, Donna Summer or James Brown, explains and demonstrates the key elements of a convincing performance, and how small details can make a big difference. Invest three hours of your musical life in a performance workshop, and get individual coaching from a top-notch professional in this field.

Instructor: Gisele Jackson toured as "Raylette" with Ray Charles at the climax of his career, after having performed many times with Donna Summer and James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, all over the world. Her credentials include big festivals and ceremonies, performances at Hollywood premieres or at the famous Carnegie Hall, and extend to over 30 countries and several continents. Her world-famous hit "Love Commandments" rose to number three of the Billboard Charts.
