POETRY & MUSIC

Poetry Jam is a further development of the 'Poetry Slam' developed in Chicago in the late 1980s and is the result of the combination of poetry slam & jazz. Based on the meanwhile widespread American origin of the self-staged text lecture at this event, the performative elements will be brought even more into the foreground. This is supported by the musical realization of creative musicians and singer/songwriters of the VMI with the participation of poets. The perfect setting for this is provided by the Coffee & Culture Factory 'la Vitrina' in the 2nd district of Vienna. A high-tension evening for music enthusiasts, literature fetishists and gourmets!

FILM PREMIERE

From June 2018, a film will be shown which students of the VMI have produced at great expense as part of a student project in the complementary subject 'Creative Identity'. The focus of the documentary is the question of how people imagine the everyday life of music students. In order to obtain the widest possible cross-section of opinions, many people inside and outside the institute were questioned and filmed. The result is a considerable documentary and interesting film, which should not only be entertaining for musicians.

TANGO WORKSHOP

Tango - pure passion? The exaggerated image of the southern composer, who sits at the piano and lets his emotions run wild ... What lies behind this picture and can this stereotype be upheld? The Argentine composer and pianist Diego Collatti will explore this question, demonstrating that the 'Argentine Tango' is less like a sensory roller coaster, but rather consists of craft elements that contrasts with each other in a functional way. These consist, for example, of formal aspects of the pieces, hints to the articulation in the musical performance and contrasting characters that sometimes appear melancholic, sometimes violent. Composers such as Piazzolla, Gardel and Salgán skillfully combined the craft of these elements, so their music conveyed passion, charm or sensuality. Collatti will show what hidden and less obvious elements make up this music, giving a clear picture of the inner life of one of the most famous genres of our time.

ART SONGS (Monopoly, Italy) from the Conservatorio di Musica "Nino Rota" di Monopoli

ART SONGS is an impro based acoustic trio (Gianni Lenoci on piano, Mina Carlucci on voice, Gianni Vancher on bass clarinet) focused mainly on the relationship between texture, timbre. rhythm, melody, harmony, technique and formal direction. Music finds its way among oblique narrations, with lyrical and dramatic moments, and intriguing harmonic textures. The output is an idiosyncratic improvised chamber music with sudden strokes of controlled (even not) violence. Nice chance to feel how sparkling is the relationship between musicians that share intentions, derivations, approaches whole perspective dialogic moves.

With two guitars the duo creates a warm and soft sound that is combined with harmonizing voices. The lyrics’ topics vary from love to seasons changing and the combination of music and words form a gentle but dynamic atmosphere.
