ABLETON LIVE BASICS I: Beat Programming & Sampler

Format: workshop

Aimed at: inquisitive minds interested in various aspects of music

Level: beginner to moderately advanced

Date: March 29th, 2019

Description: Why do I have to forsake the strict digital parameters in order to make my rhythms sounds more lively? Explore the basics of a sequencer, and program your first beats via MIDI in this interactive course. Build variations of your rhythms, assemble them to a first small live set and learn how to make them groove and swing. Familiarize yourself with the basic parameters of a sampler and shape your sounds to your taste. Bring your laptop with a trial version of Ableton Live pre- installed, along with headphones, to the workshop.

Instructor: Daniel Kohlmeigner is an expert in all things electronic music and sound design. He has performed in many countries and has garnered international recognition as a part of the electronic duo 'Ogris Debris'. This group has earned numerous prizes and was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the "Best Electronic/Dance" category, for the FM4 Award as well as the Austrian Music Video Award.

ABLETON LIVE BASICS II: Arrangement & Synthesizer

Format: workshop

Aimed at: inquisitive minds interested in various aspects of music

Level: beginner to moderately advanced

Date: May 3rd, 2019

Time: 3-7 pm

Description: How does de-tuning and the addition of noise suddenly make electronic sounds more interesting? Learn how to assemble your first building blocks to a proper arrangement, and work on the sequence of different musical parts. Discover the fundamental elements of a synthesizer; learn how to alter sounds and how to create your own. Make your own basslines, melodies and chords, putting to use the synthesizer sounds you created yourself, and thus come closer to completing an entire track. Bring your laptop with a trial version of Ableton Live pre- installed, along with headphones, to the workshop.

Format: workshop

Aimed at: inquisitive minds interested in various aspects of music

Level: beginner to moderately advanced

Date: Mai 24th, 2019

Time: 3-7 pm

Description: Why do I have to specifically school my hearing to improve on my mixing skills? Learn how to identify the key points that are critical to shaping your productions so that they sound just like you want them to. Discover the workings of an equalizer, a compressor or a limiter, and familiarize yourself with the ramifications of different volume levels within a digital environment. Immerse yourself in the colors shaped by your individual sounds, and mix down your fine-tuned mix to a stereo audio file. Bring your laptop with a trial version of Ableton Live pre- installed, along with headphones, to the workshop.

ABLETON LIVE BASICS IV: Live Perfomance

Format: workshop

Aimed at: inquisitive minds interested in various aspects of music

Level: beginner to moderately advanced

Date: June 28th, 2019

Time: 3-7 pm

Description: How do I prepare my productions for the stage, and how do I plan for an interesting live performance? Learn how to dress up your Ableton projects for the stage, and how the Live Seesion Mode assists you in staying on top of things. Learn how to integrate Midi controllers into your work, and which ones specifically lend themselves to performing live. Familiarize yourself with synthesizers and other sound generators, and how they can be part of your projects. Bring your laptop with a trial version of Ableton Live pre- installed, along with headphones, to the workshop.

Instructor: Gerhard Senz is musician and media artist based in Vienna, and is passionate about blending music and images to audio-visual art works. In this field, the sound designer, engineer and visual artist, a graduate from the Technical College Salzburg, ist constantly involved in different projects and sound production ventures.
