von DEAN BOWMAN:
Hailed
by Sue Mingus "the most important jazz vocalist since Bobby
McFerrin", Dean Bowman has become a most accomplished and eclectic
vocalist, transcending the genres of jazz, avant garde, gospel,
and hard rock. In addition to his pivotal work with Screaming Headless
Torsos, he has recorded with Don Byron, Lester Bowie, Uri Caine,
Jane Bunnett, Elliott (E#) Sharp, Stanley Cowell, and Dewey Redman.
His US tours have included with Charlie Hunter in duo and with the
Charlie Hunter Quartet. Though best known for his five-year association
with David Fiuczynski, Dean has performed spell-binding solo concerts
of traditional Black spirituals and early gospel music. He lists
his solo work along with various ensembles, which include TriFunkTory,
Soul Trilogy, Bopskool, the Black Spirituals Quintet (with pianist-arranger
James Weidman), and Ten Ballads duo (with pianist Nikolaj Hess).
