About the event
Omar Altayi is the director of DoReMi, a music school in Vienna that makes music education accessible to everyone.
As a pianist, he combines his artistic practice with his pedagogical and organizational work. His academic background in English and Psychology, along with a Master's degree in Economics, shapes his interdisciplinary approach, bringing together education, social responsibility, and entrepreneurial thinking. For his work in the fields of education and integration, he and his team were named "Austrian of the Year" in 2023. His work reflects the belief that music is not only something to be learned, but above all something to be shared and lived as a force that brings people together. DoReMi is a social music school in Vienna that makes music education accessible to everyone through the principle of "pay what you can," ensuring that financial means never stand in the way of musical learning.A particular focus is placed on paired lessons, where students of different backgrounds are brought together. Music becomes a space for genuine cultural exchange. Through the Open Pianos initiative, DoReMi also creates public spaces for encounter, where people from the most diverse backgrounds come together and experience music as a connecting force.
