International Student/Erasmus+ Buddy
Become a VMI International Student/Erasmus+ Buddy!

Are you interested in getting to know students from different countries and cultures and helping them with their everyday studies at the VMI and finding their way around Vienna?
As an International Student/Erasmus+ Buddy you are the contact person for an international student and ideally get in touch with the student before their arrival and support them with their studies at VMI and everyday life in Vienna during the semester.

Buddy support may include:

Answering the host student's questions before arrival in Vienna (questions about studying at the VMI, about life in Vienna, in Austria, etc.).

Possibly pick up from the train station or airport, accompany to accommodation (would be nice if possible)

If possible, accompaniment/support with official matters, e.g. registering with the municipal district office, semester ticket for the Vienna public transport system

Participation in the Welcome Meeting at the VMI

Support in establishing contacts with other students and in finding one's way in Vienna

Giving students an insight into the Austrian way of life Joint leisure activities, taking students to concerts, events, etc. - whatever is fun!

What advantages do I have as an International Student/Erasmus+ Buddy?
As a VMI International Student/Erasmus+ Buddy you not only have the opportunity to make international contacts in Vienna, to improve your language skills (English and possibly the language of the incoming student's country of origin), but also the chance to prepare yourself for your own planned stay abroad. In addition, the buddy activity earns you bonus points for your Erasmus+ application! Upon request, you will receive a confirmation from the International Office of the VMI about your activity as a buddy, which can certainly benefit you when applying for jobs and internships.
Who can be an International Student/Erasmus+ Buddy?
Every VMI student who is interested in intercultural exchange has time resources besides their studies and knows their way around Vienna is welcome to apply as a buddy! Maybe you are planning to spend a semester abroad during your studies or maybe you have already studied abroad yourself and know from your own experience how lost you can feel in a foreign city at the beginning. Maybe you don't have the opportunity to study abroad yourself, then you have the chance as a buddy to gain international and intercultural experience in Vienna in the spirit of internationalization@home!
