VMI – Vienna Music Institute – Conservatory of Contemporary Music

The Final Concert of the VMI – Vienna Music Institute at Porgy & Bess is considered one of the highlights of the academic year. For the students, performing on this internationally renowned stage for jazz and improvised music is a special honor: not only are artistic achievements presented here, but the individual growth and development of the past years are also made visible and celebrated.

At the graduation concert at Porgy & Bess, a selected excerpt of this creative and musical diversity will be presented during this special afternoon: two ensembles will showcase their programs, developed with great dedication, precision, and artistic sensitivity. One of this year’s graduating ensembles is led by Conrad Schrenk. He shares his exceptional expertise with the students and supports them in developing creative arrangements. Conrad Schrenk is a musician, composer, arranger, and producer, and one of Europe’s most technically accomplished guitarists. Through his collaborations with numerous Austrian and international artists, including Lionel Richie, Wolfgang Ambros, Georg Danzer, Falco, and many others, Conrad Schrenk has established himself as one of the prominent figures in the international music scene.

Another graduating ensemble is led by Simon Raab. He is regarded as one of the outstanding pianists of the Austrian music scene and can look back on numerous successes and awards. With his creative impulses, he accompanies and inspires the students in developing their programs. Simon Raab regularly demonstrates his artistic skill and musical versatility on international stages and at renowned jazz festivals, particularly with his band “Purple is the Color.” In addition, collaborations with formations and artists such as ProBrass, Yasmo & die Klangkantine, Oliver Steger, Andreas Lettner, and many others continue to shape his artistic work.
